Individual Therapy
My primary focus in individual therapy is in helping motivate my clients to make the changes that they wish to see in their lives. This process involves guiding clients in becoming more aware of their emotional experiences and thought patterns, and considering how their past and present relationships effect their current distress. I have expertise in working with anxiety, depression, identity development (including gender and sexual orientation exploration, transitions, and coming outs), self-esteem, grief and loss, career dissatisfaction, and all manner of relationship issues (romantic, familial, friendships, etc.). I see individuals age 14 and older, and have a particular passion for working with young women and early career professionals in the medical and mental health fields.
Eating Disorders
Unhealthy relationships with food and body are now so widespread as to be almost a collective human experience. Many of my clients have recognized their struggle to relate healthily to the food they eat, perhaps engaging in disordered eating behaviors, experiencing dissatisfaction with their bodies, or having a full-blown eating disorder (i.e., ARFID, Anorexia, Bulimia, or Binge-Eating disorders). I use the Health at Every Size® and Intuitive Eating perspectives to counteract the harmful messages of diet culture, fatphobia, and weight stigmatization, and help my clients make peace with food and their bodies.
Couples and Relationship Therapy
Healthy relationships are essential to the human experience. In relational therapy, I guide my clients toward secure functioning in their relationships, helping them to better understand and connect with their partners. I have specialized training in the Gottman and PACT couples therapy methods and bring this knowledge into the therapy room. I welcome people of all genders, sexual orientations, and romantic configurations (mono, poly, open, etc.) for relational therapy and strive to create an affirming space for LGBTQIA+ folx to do this work.
Sex Therapy
For clients in both individual and relational therapy, sexuality and sexual intimacy can be significant concerns. I approach my clients’ sexual issues from a non-judgmental, body positive, and sex positive perspective. I support individuals in working through their sexual difficulties by helping them to better understand their bodies and sexual desires, create more comfort in communicating about sex, and increase their sexual pleasure and intimacy. I have a particular interest in women’s sexual health, and am in the process of becoming an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist through extensive sex therapy training and supervision.
Students and Emerging Adults
I have many years of experience working in collegiate mental health, and thus have an insider’s knowledge on the particular challenges that students today face. On top of academic pressures, I know that this phase of life is often characterized by issues of identity development and transition, during which therapy can be essential to processing past hurts, creating a coherent sense of self, and positioning oneself in the world for continued growth and development. I also know that sometimes the school years are extended, and have expertise in the specific struggles of graduate and medical school students.
Gender Affirmative Surgery Evaluations
I strive to be an ally for the LGBTQ+ community and feel passionately about people having the ability to live as their authentic selves. As such, I provide the necessary WPATH evaluations for gender confirmation surgery for trans and non-binary individuals in a safe and affirming environment. These evaluations are conducted quickly and efficiently to help individuals move smoothly through the process to be able to access the surgeries they need.
“I just wanted to reach out and thank you for writing the letter endorsing my eligibility for top surgery. It means a lot that you went out of your way to provide the proper documents to make it all possible, and is a testament to your true investment in your clients, during their time with you and beyond. The work you do is immeasurably impactful. Thank you for all you've done and continue to do to provide care to people that seek it. You make a difference!” - Liv, 25 years old
The first step toward change is awareness of the problem.
